Up for Grabs
(88:00) USA – San Francisco, CA
A media circus. Courtroom drama. A video tape. And the most controversial baseball in the world. UP FOR GRABS is a bitingly comic documentary that chronicles the legal fight over the baseball from Barry Bonds' historic 73rd home run. This stranger-than-fiction film tells the tale of a man who was willing to risk everything for a piece of baseball history and fifteen minutes of fame. The ball was believed to be worth well over $1 million as it landed in the right field bleachers at Pac Bell Park in San Francisco. A wild melee ensued in the stands, and Patrick Hayashi emerged from the human dogpile with the ball. Later, Alex Popov claimed that he had caught the ball and that it had been stolen from him in the pile. That lead not only to a lawsuit but a full-blown trial and a judge's unprecedented decision. UP FOR GRABS tells the story of the baseball, the obsession over it, and all of the odd characters that it brought together. Director: Michael Wranovics Up for Grabs home: www.upforgrabsfilm.com |
